Open Thread: Do you consider Abortion a War on Human Beings?
In a recent debate one of my friends on Facebook stated that he doesn't consider abortion to be a type of war. He doesn't even think abortion should be compared to slavery or The Holocaust. Over a million innocent human beings have been killed every year by abortions since Roe Vs. Wade. Abortionists may not use a weapon like rifles or guns but their weapons of choice is a pair of forceps and drugs which are used to kill innocent human life. I am not sure how someone who is pro-life would think that over one million murdered unborn babies per year should not be compared to The Holocaust. He thinks abortion is a holocaust but shouldn't be compared to The Holocaust. I think that abortion is worse than slavery. While some slaves were victims of murder many were not. The treatment of slaves was horrible but many were not killed so I don't see how slavery even comes close to the horrific nature of abortion. Do you think abortion is a type of war? Do you think abortion is considered a type of holocaust? Or compared to slavery? Should abortion be compared to The Holocaust?

Yes, I do consider abortion to be an attack.
This attack is on a number of fronts. Obviously there is the attack on life. This for one astonishes me because if they found a fetus on Mars they’d call it life, but not if its found here on earth.
If I were the doctor of a woman who used abortion as birth control, I’d be raising serious mental health questions about her. This kind of undertaking and thinking, born in 1972, is criminal in my mind and in my heart. Rape, incest and health of the mother are the only instances where I would consider such an abomination.
Actions have consequences. Those unwilling or unprepared for those consequences need to exercise abstinence. If he can’t then lock him up till he can. Same for her. This is how important life is. This is how sacred life is. Call me radical or drastic, I’ll wear it like a diamond ring.
Five words rarely spoken to today’s youth: Your actions are your responsibility. And because they have not been spoken, the youth shirk accountability when it suits them. And those youth are now adults and parents. We reap what we sow. And while we are on the subject, is there ANY young person out there who can tell me what “Responsible” means?
This subject always leaves me asking: Why are we even talking about this? Doesn’t everyone want a chance at life?
When will young people see they are messing up their kid’s future by messing up their kids!!! Stupid people aught not be parents, but in today’s America, there should not be any stupid people if you have all your marbles. But that’s another subject…

I second your entire statement. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have a virus of a lifetime and feel awful so I will respond to your response more in-depth later on.

According to the Atlas of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, 12,500,000 Africans were kidnapped and transported to Brazil, the Caribbean (primarily Cuba, Jamaica, and St. Domingue) and the United States between 1501-1867. Once there, they were sold into slavery and lives of unspeakable squalor and brutality. This legacy was, of course, passed on for generation after generation.
The Holocaust took place in the part of Europe that historian Timothy Snyder calls the bloodlands, where between them Stalin and Hitler masterminded the deliberate murders -- by shooting, starvation, or asphyxiation -- of 14,000,000 Jews, Ukranians, Belarusians, Estonian, Latvians, Lithuanians, and Poles.
To compare anything to these officially perpetrated catastrophes is to trivialize both. Surely, you can come up with a better way to make your point than by casually dismissing the ashes of the crematoria and the horrors of the Middle Passage.

There have been over 1.2 Billion abortions worldwide in the last 31 years. There have been 53 million abortions since 1973 in the U.S. alone. Those numbers dwarf the statistics you have cited. If anything is threatened to be trivialized by this comparison, it's abortion. But, I'll take that chance.
